Rhinoplasty, often referred to as a ‘nose job’, relates to most cosmetic surgery procedures that involve the reshaping or restructuring of the nose.

Reasons for Undergoing Rhinoplasty:

Functional rhinoplasty

There are two principal reasons for undergoing nose surgery: functional rhinoplasty or cosmetic rhinoplasty. In many cases where the rhinoplasty is to improve breathing through the nose (functional nose surgery) this is combined with a cosmetic procedure – often the two are related anyway.

The less aggressive functional rhinoplasty procedures include nasal septoplasty, turbinate reduction and nasal polyp removal. A deviated septum – the internal wall which separates the two nostrils can restrict breathing through one side and this can be resolved through nasal septoplasty.

Turbinates are mucous membrane-covered ‘shelves’ of bone which run down the length of the internal nose cavity. In certain cases where these are too large, this can restrict the ability to breathe freely through the nose.

Polyps can be a recurring problem and, in most cases, can be easily removed.

Cosmetic rhinoplasty

The reason for opting for nose surgery can often be down to your being unhappy with the shape of your nose, and nothing else. This can simply be the natural shape you were born with, or can be the result of an accident which has led to you breaking your nose. Noses do not always ‘mend’ in their original shape after being broken, and can become squint, flat or become even more protruding around the bridge.

Cosmetic rhinoplasty can help you achieve the look you want, and in turn will help to reduce any feelings of self-consciousness about the appearance of your nose.

At Maccenta Istanbul we are specialists in cosmetic rhinoplasty procedures.

Cosmetic Rhinoplasty – what does this involve?

There are two main forms of rhinoplasty procedure – open and closed, and both forms of nasal surgery are performed under general anaesthetic.

An open procedure involves surgery on the exterior of the nose, while closed surgery involves altering the structure of the nose from the inside, via the nostrils.

Where appreciable reshaping is required, the surgery will involve the insertion of silicon splints to reduce swelling. These splints are removed prior to your departure from Istanbul, where after the natural healing process will continue.

If you have travelled from afar and have opted an all-inclusive package, you will be collected from your hotel and taken to the hospital for your procedure and, once finished, you will be driven back to your hotel as part of our all-inclusive service.

Rhinoplasty as part of a multiple cosmetic procedure

More and more often we perform rhinoplasty as part of a multiple cosmetic procedure. This type of surgery can be performed alongside a full or partial facelift, or otoplasty, as examples.

If you have any questions you would like to ask before booking your cosmetic surgery procedure with us, please get in contact and we will be happy to provide you with all the answers you need.

Post-operative care after rhinoplasty

Any splints inserted during the procedure will be removed towards the end of your stay in Istanbul. There will be considerable post-operative bruising and swelling which is normal (oedema).

You are advised not to return to work for 7 days after the rhinoplasty procedure and to avoid any physical exertion. The time for the complete healing process will depend on the level of surgery you have had, but after one month most of the bruising should have disappeared. Thereafter, you should allow up to six months before your nose will have achieved its final shape.
